Realizing the importance of Space inputs in form of RS, GIS and GPS for planning and Development the Hon'ble Cabinet of Assam held on 28.07.2021, the Assam Remote Sensing Application Centre (ARSAC) was carve out from Assam Science, Technology and Environment Council as Assam State Space Application Centre (ASSAC). The Assam State Space Application Centre (ASSAC) was registered under Society Registration Act XXI of 1860 on 3rd November 2021 and started functioning as an autonomous body under Department of Science, Technology and Climate Change, Govt. of Assam. The State Government's initiative for implementation of space technology as RS, GIS and GPS for governance and Developmental Planning is the main objective of ASSAC.

ASSAC is set up to fulfil the following objectives :

  • To set up a State Natural Resource Management System.
  • To develop approaches for integrated resources data management.
  • To provide services/consultancy based on specific user needs in the field of Remote Sensing and GIS.
  • To provide wider usage of geo-spatial applications through decision support system
